Antonio Piñero was born in Chipiona, Spain in 1941. He is Chair and Professor Emeritus of Greek Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid and an internationally renowned specialist in language and literature of early Christianity. His works in this field as both an author and editor are numerous. He has also published nearly a hundred scientific papers in national and international journals, as well as numerous chapters in books. He has translated various works from ancient languages, such as Greek, Latin, Coptic, and Aramaic, and modern languages, such as English, French, German, and Italian.

In 2007, Antonio won the I Finis Terrae Award for his book Los cristianos derrotados.
